BEEKEEPING - INTRODUCTORY COURSE
Are your fruit trees not yielding sufficient fruit? Is your garden short of bees? Do you want to contribute to the environment by having a bee hive in your back yard? Then come along to this introductory course which will cover basic beekeeping skills from building a hive from kitset to managing a hive and recognition of diseases and how to treat them. This 6 week course consists of week one an orientation night and taking a look at the equipment used in Beekeeping. Week 2 is a practical night making up bee boxes and frames when students will need to bring a battery drill with a square drive bit and a hammer. Following on from this will be 2 sessions on disease recognition. There will be two field trips to work live hives, plus a night on products of the hive and candle making with beeswax. You do not need a bee suit for the field trips but if you have one then bring it with you. Field trips will be held, weather permitting, on a Saturday from 11 am to 1 pm during the course time-frame.
A booklet with course information, supplied by the Tutor will be available to purchase at the cost of $5.00
